Mini-Review: To Catch A Firefly

I kept seeing this book on every MM Romance top ten for 2024, and yet I was still a little reluctant to read it. For the life of me, I do not know why because it was just gorgeous.

I read. Obviously.

What’s interesting is that I don’t read particularly consistently. I have been keeping track (via Goodreads integration with my Kindle) of what I read for fifteen years. And my average over those fifteen years is about 74 books per year.

But some years, I read 40 books, and some years, I read 100. One year, I read 375. One year I read nothing.

That was 2020, btw. I read a ton of Scott and Tessa fan fiction that year in the spring and after March, well, I…just couldn’t.

But I never know in January whether I’ll be in a ‘read a couple chapters a day’ place, or a ‘barely look up and never sleep’ place, or somewhere in-between. Based on January’s numbers, it’s looking somewhere in-between. I set my Goodreads goal to 75, but my actual prediction is closer to the 150 range. If it ends up much higher than that, it will be at the expense of the balance that I am looking for, so that would not necessarily be a good thing.

But I have precisely zero control over where Donna decides to mine for dopamine, and books are better for me than TikTok, so I guess I should go where the wind takes me.

Plus, it’s a damn dumpster fire out there, and anything that gives us peace is a good thing.
